The Osaka, Japan (Brankett) Experience with Mr Peabody Records

We finally made it back home after our visit to japan. Good people and tons of good music.

To start off, we missed our flight leaving due to Chicago's Infamous traffic jam's. Should have known better, trying to get to O'hare airport in time on the Kennedy Expressway, at 8am dead in the heart of the rush hour. Being the gig was scheduled a couple days after our arrival in Japan, we still were able to leave the following day. Upon our arrival we were greeted by Keiko, Hankyo (Brankett), And DJ Taizo (lesson zero).

The airport was beautiful, Most of the structure was made of glass we noticed as we walked out.. We made our way through the city passing many street signs (which we could not understand) other than the letter spelling which were are familiar with from shipping many records to the area. We got to our rooms downtown, which the accomadations where very nice thanks to Keiko & The Brankett Crew.

We settled our bags down and hit the streets with Keiko, Hankyo & Taizo. We went throught the streets and saw many sights and shops.

We ended up having dinner at a place that was in a basement of an office building downtown. There, we met DJ Mitsuki(brankett / J.A.N.) had our first experience with Sushi, Octopus, Fine Beer, And Japanesse Fried Chicken, Yummy! After that we ended up going to have a drink at the Contort Bar, did we say bar? Opps, we mean Bar & Record Shop. We met some cool people Owner Yamano and his really cool bartender Yulliy. She hooked us up with some drinks to get our buzz on, Thanks Yulliy. We had good conversation, and they had some fantastic records as well as live Dj's. After that, ended up going back to our rooms to rest up. The next day, we went on a tour of our friends/record stores throughout osaka. We visited 10 stores total:
J.A.N. /

Dusty Record Convention (Chicago) - Nov 2010 - Honoring Richard Pegue, Another Great Night Out..

Once again we have another installment Of The Chicago Dusty Record Convention/Richard Pegue Memorial Party. I'd have to say the highlight of the night was catching a glimpse of the legendary Gene Chandler doing his thin on stage. The "Duke Of Earl" was in full effect. That guy moves better than me! It was a pleasure to meet him and get a pic and along with so many more people and many new faces. Definately a party not to be missed as I said 6 months ago. The Dj's were Ray Nea (WKKC-FM) , Tyrone Cannon (Ohio), & Al Greer (WKKC-FM). They played some serious soul that evening ON A SERIOUS SOUND SYSTEM provided by Chicago's Own Earnest L.

More About Richard Pegue:

Richard Pegue was born in Chicago to a beautician and a policeman. His father died in the line of duty when he was only two years old. Pegue would go on to develop a strong career in radio. This career began at age eleven, when Pegue's grandmother gave him a reel-to-reel tape recorder for his birthday. By sixteen, he was using his recorder to D.J. at dances at South Side schools. He even formed a doo-wop group, the Belvederes, at Hirsch High School. After graduating in 1961, Pegue worked bagging groceries at Del Farm Foods and selling records at Met Music. While working both jobs, Pegue still found time to attend radio broadcasting classes at Columbia College. Pegue continued performing doo-wop with a group called the Norvells. In 1965, Pegue wrote and produced "I'm Not Ready to Settle Down." Performed by the Cheers, the song still enjoys radio airplay today. In 1968, he became the music director at WVON. When WVON was sold in 1975, Pegue found work at various radio stations in Chicago and Northwest Indiana, including WOPA and WGCI, where he worked as a program director and fill-in disc jockey. In 1987, he returned to WGCI and facilitated a popular format change to urban oldies, or dusties. He stayed with the station for thirteen years. Then in 1993, Pegue began appearing every Friday at a Chicago dance club called Taste Entertainment, where he developed a following. In 1996, Pegue attended a movie with his wife, Sevina, and suffered a stroke. He spent six months recovering before recovering enough to work. In 2000, Pegue returned to WVON. By the mid 2000's Richard Joined his DJ friends AL GREER, LAMONT WATTS, RAY NEAL AND PJ WILLIS AT WKKC 89.3 FM Where continued to play the best music of your life un Saturday nights at midnight. Sadly to announce, RICHARD PEGUE passed away on MARCH 3 2009 at JACKSON PARK HOSPITAL. To all fans please feel free to post your comments and thank you for supporting THE BEST MUSIC OF YOUR LIFE. REST IN PEACE RICHARD. YOUR FRIENDS PJ WILLIS, AL GREER, TYRONE CANNON & RAY NEAL

Lono Brazil - Down Tempo Jazz Dance Floor Mix

Well, here we are winding down the weekend. What better way to end it of than with some smooth jazzy down tempo dancefloor grooves by no one other than our guy Mr. Lono Brazil of The Disco Unusual Social Club. Check this mix out below.

(Lono Brazil)

NU-JAZZ REVIVAL. ACID JAZZ/DOWNTEMPO, DANCE FLOOR JAZZ, Acid Jazz was a term coined in the late 80's by Gilles Peterson, Chris Bangs and Eddie Piller. It describes a funky music style which incorporates elements of jazz, 70's funk, hip-hop, soul, as well as other genres.

Culminating soon afterwards in the creation of Acid Jazz Records. It's first signing was Galliano, featuring lead singer Rob Gallagher. Hot on Galliano's heels came The Brand New Heavies, The New Jersey Kings (an alias for The James Taylor Quartet), Mother Earth and The Sandals.

In 1990, Gilles Peterson left Acid Jazz Records and started a new label called Talkin' Loud, which continued the tradition, signing acts such as Courtney Pine, Incognito, The K-Creative, Omar and MC Solaar.

Jazzillmatic Arksetra pays homage to the original Acid Jazz mob. AND TAKING IT FORWARD..... Nuff Respect to United Future Organization, Young Disciples, 4hero, Jazzanova, Nathan Haines, Boozoo Bajou, Laurent Garnier, Gotan Project, Nicola Conte, St. Germain, Crazy Frenchman, Pal Joey,
